After Bin Laden: What might come next

After an extraordinary week of events in the United States and abroad, one thing is clear: Osama bin Laden's death at the hands of American forces has the potential to ripple out into global affairs in many ways — political and military, diplomatic and cultural, and of course U.S. national security.

Candid videos show rare view of unkempt bin Laden

For years, the world only saw the 54-year-old Osama bin Laden in the rare propaganda videos that trickled out, the ones portraying him as a charismatic religious figure unfazed by being the target of a worldwide manhunt.

reflection

the class discusion went well. everyone had some intresting points and key argumts. my thoughts are that immigrants should be given a chance because they come here to work hard and make money so they can send money to their family. but their are people that dont understand that. the u.s. should secure our borders to keep from more immigrants coming in.

What part of "illegal" don't people understand? "Illegal immigrant" is a misnomer. How can a person who is here illegal even be considered an immigrant? A person who is in the country illegally is a lawbreaker and should be dealt with accordingly.

But in other ways, he's a little different. Jake, who has an IQ of 170, began solving 5,000-piece jigsaw puzzles at the age of 3, not long after he'd been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, a mild form of autism. A few years later, he taught himself calculus, algebra, and geometry in two weeks. By 8, he had left high school, and is currently taking college-level advanced astrophysics classes—while tutoring his older classmates. And he's being recruited for a paid researcher job by Indiana University.

class discusion reflection

this past class discusion was good. The topic of education was good a good one because this is a very important subject right now in the united states. Many people have or had the oppurtunity to get an education but they just didnt take advantage of it. There are some people that dont have the oppurtunity to get an education because of problems or something. I think that sucks that they cant get an education because those people are really smart. Some kids have it easy and there lazy all they want to do is play video games  instead they should be studying and bettering their education. Kids these days arent as commited some just dont care anymore.

Fridays dicusion reflection!

I think fridays discusion went well. I liked how people really were in to it. Most of the people in the class brought up some really important things. Like weather health care is a right or a privlage. I think it should be a right so eveyone in this country should be healthy and taken care of. But some people think the oppisit but thats what the discusion was okay. And also of the countrys debt how important that is, the debt is growing and how were trying to stop it but I think its going to be hard because everything the government does they have to spend money. Well see what happens. Overall I think the discusion was good and cant wait till the next one.

gifford is now breathing on her own after being shot in the head. She still has a breathing tube for precausion but she is breathin on her own.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Rep. Gabrielle Giffords reached an important step in her recovery from a bullet through her head, breathing on her own for the first time and moving both arms, doctors said Tuesday in what was expected to be a long recuperation. Giffords still has a breathing tube in place as a precaution, said her neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Lemole.
"I'm happy to say that she's holding her own," he said.
Giffords, a three-term Democrat, remained in critical condition at Tucson's University Medical Center since Saturday when she was shot during a meeting with constituents outside a grocery store. The attack killed six and injured 14 others. Six remained hospitalized.
Doctors previously reported Giffords raised two fingers with her left hand and gave a thumbs-up when responding to verbal commands. Now they say she is moving her arms.
Although her condition has remained virtually unchanged the past few days, doctors were hopeful.
"She has a 101 percent chance of surviving," said trauma chief Dr. Peter Rhee said. "She will not die. She does not have that permission from me."
Doctors initially thought the bullet entered the back of the skull and exited the front, but after reviewing X-rays and brain scans, two outside physicians brought in by Giffords' medical team now believe that Giffords was likely shot in the front of her head.
Giffords was lucky the bullet did not cross into both sides, or hemispheres, of the brain, which can leave lasting damage, her doctors have said.

ARIZONA SHOOTER

shooter of the arizona tragedy was held without bail and could do life in jail or get death penalty for shooting.

Suspect in Arizona shooting held without bail

Suspect in Arizona shooting held without bail
PHOENIX – The nation got its first look on Monday at the 22-year-old loner accused of trying to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Jared Loughner, head shaved, a cut above the right temple and his hands cuffed, scanned a packed courtroom and sat down.
His attorney, who defended Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski, whispered to him.
The judge asked Loughner if he understood that he could get life in prison — or the death penalty — for killing federal Judge John Roll, one of the six who died in the shooting rampage at Giffords' meeting with constituents on Saturday in Tucson.Yes," he said, standing at a lecturn in his beige prison jumpsuit. A U.S. marshal stood guard nearby.
The judge ordered Loughner held without bail.
Throngs of reporters and television news crews lined up outside the federal courthouse, where the hearing was moved from Tucson. The entire federal bench there recused itself because Roll was the chief judge.
Hours earlier, the nation observed a moment of silence for the victims of the rampage, from the South Lawn of the White House and the steps of the U.S. Capitol to legislature beyond Arizona and the International Space Station.
There, Giffords' brother-in-law, Scott, the commanding officer, spoke over the radio. Flight controllers in Houston fell silent. As I look out the window, I see a very beautiful planet that seems very inviting and peaceful," he said. "Unfortunately, it is not."
"These days, we are constantly reminded of the unspeakable acts of violence and damage we can inflict upon one another, not just with our actions, but also with our irresponsible words," he said.
"We're better than this," he said. "We must do better."
On a frigid morning outside the White House, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama stood side by side, each with their hands clasped, heads bowed and eyes closed.
On the steps of the U.S. Capitol, congressional staff and other employees did the same.
